October 4-5th White Sox 8 DBacks 1 In round one of the playoffs, the 2/3 seed matchup included the DBacks that were virtually tied for first place at the end of the regular season and the surging White Sox. The DBacks are deep with solid hitting, excellent defense and pitching. The game started off with the Sox at bat playing a little small-ball. Anthony Osborne reached on an error by DBack 3B, Randy. Tom Spaniol executed a perfect sac bunt to move Osborne over. Dustin Wilson moved Osborne in on a rope single and Andy Miller followed him up with a 2-run homer to start the game off 3-0 White Sox. Then the ball was given to White Sox hurler, Evan Neiser. Evan proceeded to have "a day" on the mound striking out 15 DBacks in 7 complete innings allowing 5 scattered hits all late in the game and only one earned run. Evan's location was perfect as he was placing pitches wherever Andy Miller placed his mitt. The White Sox offense gave Evan all he needed in the first, but continued to plate runners led by Andy Miller's two home runs (2-3, 2HR, 3RBI), Dustin Wilson (3-4, RBI), Stephen Boudreaux (2-3), Robert Foshe (2-3, RBI), and a surprising Masashi! Yoshimoto (2-3, RBI, BB) who had a great defensive day ending the game with put out in right field. The Sox have their work cut out for them next week with the seemingly undefeatable Cubs looming.--Stephen Boudreaux, White Sox
September 27-28th White Sox 12 Braves 0 Braves 2 White Sox 24 The surging White Sox held off the sometimes surprising Braves in a pair of routs. In game one, Evan Neiser continued his excellence by throwing a 5-inning no-hitter with 10 strikeouts and only a pair of walks to blemish the perfect game chance. Game two was Mark Taylor's chance. Taylor finally got some offensive support that he has been lacking all season long. And it came in droves. He threw a 3-hitter with 9 strikeouts in only four innings before the game was called by field umpire Dennis Collier in a "mercy" effort. Taylor's only blemish was a 325 foot home run over the 324 foot center-field fence. Kudos to Tony Foshe, though, for hitting the fastball down the middle and making Taylor pay. The White Sox offense took advantage of the pitcher-less Braves by going up 5-2 in the second inning. In the third, Braves starter Caleb Smith quickly fell victim to some hot Sox bats and was pulled. Matters worsened as the Sox scored 20 in the frame having gone one batter shy of three full rotations. On the day, offensive standouts include Masashi Yoshimoto (2-5, 2BB, 3R, 3RBI), Dave Battaglia (4-5, 5R, 3B, 1BB, 2RBI, SAC), Evan Neiser (2-4, 2R, 2RBI), Stephen Boudreaux (4-6, 3R, RBI, 1BB), and Andy Miller (3-5, 4R, 6RBI, 2K, GSHR). --Stephen Boudreaux, White Sox

July 26-27th White Sox 10 Strikers 7 Strikers 3 White Sox 10 FINALLY A CLOSE GAME! It seems that parity is off a bit this season. Teams are either run-ruling opponents or teams are forfeiting their chances. Not so at Reiff Park with the Strikers and White Sox. On a beautifully warm afternoon, the struggling White Sox looked to find some chemistry heading into the mid-point of the season. The White Sox had in the past week lost their two "ace" pitchers for the remainder of the season and are going to have to rely on some crafty veterans to pick up the pace. In game one, lefty Mark Taylor took the hill against the still-up-and-coming Strikers. The Strikers borrowed a couple of able bodies from the Cubs to help them field a competitive team and it showed. While Taylor pitched a nice, complete game fanning 7 batters, things looked like they might be a little shaky having given up a dinger with the third pitch of the day. The game seemed in hand, though with the Sox up 10-3 going into the 7th when a tired Taylor let four runs come across. Coach Boudreaux made a nifty play on a slow roller to end the game showing distant signs of his former self. Having turned 40 this year, it may be his last season in the 18+... Offensively, Andy Miller was 2-3 with 4RBI, Mike Lopez was 1-1 with 2BB, 3 Runs, 1RBI and a stolen base. In game two, Tom Spaniol looked to douse any momentum the Strikers were building by striking out 11 batters and giving up only 5 meaningless hits in a complete game effort. Tom's location was nearly perfect as he had a 2-hitter going into the 7th. Anthony Osborne went 2-4 and scored 2 runs. Coach Boudreaux was 3-4 with a run scored and 2RBI off borrowed pitching. Highlights included an incredible infield base hit by Lyndall Bolinger whose hustle on a healing broken leg allowed him to beat the throw by sliding headlong into the bag. Also, the game ended on a Travis Briggs laser beam throw down to second base to catch a runner off the bag.--Stephen Boudreaux, White Sox

June 14-15th White Sox 5 Marlins 11 The opening day for the Marlins and White Sox looked to be a real tough battle with the score 4-3 Sox into the top of the 6th and then 6-4 Marlins through the top of the 8th. That's when things fell off for the Sox with the Marlins plating 5 in the bottom of the frame. The Sox could only score one in the top of the 9th. White Sox pitcher Evan Neiser pitched well through 6 to give the Sox a chance striking out 6 in the loss. Mark Taylor relieved striking out 5. Patterson for the Marlins struck out 7 White Sox batters in a strong effort to earn the win giving up only 4 scattered hits.--Stephen Boudreaux, White Sox
