League Standings 2000 Final AS OF October 5, 2000
Weekend's ResultsOctober 2nd: White Sox 17 Diablos 6 In what seems like every game played is against the Diablos, the White Sox are holding on to second place in the division behind the surprising Red Sox. The rubber match with the Yankees is right around the corner...stay tuned. Lee "Spanky" Renfro is the iron man with five consecutive starts (3-2) with little relief. September 9th: Dodgers 11 White Sox 8 In a hard fought game by the under-manned White Sox, the Dodgers of the 30+ Division showed why they lead the league. Lee "Spanky" Renfro pitched gallantly with no potential relief and with only 9 players to start, the White Sox had to finish the game with only 8 players due to the departure of injured Boudreaux in the 5th (calf muscle pull). With the loss, the White Sox fall back 1/2 game of the Yankees in the division.
August 26th: White Sox 10 Red Birds 2 A complete game from Matt "Mr. Selective" Walters resulted in another victory for the charging White Sox. Stephen "Front Office" Boudreaux exclaimed, "Last year was a disappointment losing the division to the talented Yankee squad, but this year, we have a new name, new attitude, better talent, and are going to have so much more fun playing baseball. We are going to make a charge on those Yankees and take advantage of their complacency." Coming from 2 games back in the divisional race after splitting the two-game series, the White Sox have now taken a 1/2 game lead over the Yanks. The series Rubber Match is coming up at the end of September...stay tuned. Diablos
6 Braves 4 August 19th: Diablos 7 White Sox 11 A most unbelievable play resulted from last weekend. Rowland "Squeaky" McKinney, our esteemed catcher stole home in a play right out of the Sandlot movie. With the game deadlocked in the 7th and realizing the pitcher was coming from the wind-up, McKinney put his head down and bolted for the plate. In what seemed like slow motion, the crowd in the stands and both dugouts rose in anticipation…the pitchers eyes widening as he “put a little extra” on the pitch to beat the runner. As the pitch tailed a bit high, McKinney slid head first just inches under the tag for the go-ahead run and a resulting victory…long live the excitement of baseball. McKinney went 5 for 5 on the day with 3 runs, 2 RBI, 2 doubles and 2 stolen bases. Kudos from the Front Office Lee "Spanky" Renfro pitched an eight inning complete game with 12 strike-outs and no walks to secure the win. Kudos from the Front Office Tigers 10 Braves 6
