White Sox 3
Dodgers 2
It was as it should have
been between the two teams atop the division. Undecided until
the final out... The White Sox did not know who to expect on the
mound as the game days changed, but to our fortune, Evan Neiser was
gung-ho for a CG outing. Evan had yet to start a game this
season, but has looked all ace in each of his relief outings.
The Dodgers are as solid a hitting team as they come and have been
that way in all the years I have known Eric Exner to have his squad.
The day belonged to the pitchers however on both sides. The
Dodger pitching tandem gave up only 5 hits to a White Sox squad that
averages closer to 15 on the year. Our middle-of-the-order went
1-15. Yikes! Fortunately, it only took a few previously
unsung heroes to step to the plate and make things happen. Mike
Lopez started the game off with a base hit, stolen base, and scored
the games first run on Josh Merryman's RBI. In the 5th, Evan
Neiser helped himself out with a single and scored from first on Wes
Elliot's RBI double. Elliot then scored on a pick off attempt
that rolled into center field. The Dodger center fielder never
saw the ball and Elliot continued to round third and jogged into home
for the difference in the game. Neiser gets the game ball with a
pitching line: 9 INCG, 2ER, 6H, 0BB, 1HBP, 16Ks, and 1-3, 1R,
RBI. -- Stephen Boudreaux, White Sox
July 17-18th
White Sox 17 AppleKnockers 6
For some reason, the AppleKnockers kept their stallions in the
stable for this game and it cost them. The White Sox went down
a quick 4-2 after the first inning, but then go things going in the
3rd and 4th scoring 10 runs in the two frames. The White Sox
tacked on four more in the 6th to run the final to 17-6.
The offense was led by Dustin Wilson (4-5, 1R, 3RBI), John Michael
Hairston (2-2, 1R, 1@2B, 2BB, 4RBI), Seth White (2-4, 2R, 1RBI,
1HBP), and Chris Huebner (2-4, 3R, 1@2B, 1B). The pitching
group of Huebner, Andy Crowson, and Evan Neiser combined for 6IN,
4ER, 6H, 3BB, 8K. Andy Crowson gets the win without allowing a
run and Evan Neiser gets the save striking out 4 of 6 batters.--Stephen
Boudreaux, White Sox
July 10-11th
White Sox 17 RedBirds 10
Cardinals 1 White Sox 11 The White Sox
continue to roll behind the offensive prowess of Sox veteran, Andy
Miller. On the day, Andy had a stat line like this: 5
for 8, 5R, 6RBI, 1BB, 1K, and 3 Home Runs. One of those home
runs was as high and far as I have ever seen Andy hit one. I
am pretty sure it only came down after clipping the Hubble
Telescope. Andy is hitting a wacky 0.667 on the season with 37
total bases in only 24 official at bats. Dustin Wilson also
had a great first game going 4-4 with a solid home run of his own
and 3RBI. Dustin also got the win in game two in relief.
Seth White had a great game two going 3-3 with 2R, 1RBI, 2BB.
Mike Lopez also had a good game two breaking out with 3-4, 2RBI and
a SB. The most fun of the day had to be the triumphant return
of long time league veteran and journeyman, Andy Crowson.
Crowson, at one time, played for nearly every team in the league
bouncing around to wherever a good lefty was needed. Crowson
first showed up in the White Sox stat sheets in 2006 helping the Sox
to a 12-8 record and again in 2007 leading the team in wins (5) and
Ks (36). On this day, the old man started game one and went 3
2/3 innings, 4R, 2ER, 11Hits, 1BB, 3K and probably should have
earned the win had he not come out pre-maturely with a bum wheel.
Nice to have Andy back. He makes the dugout the place to be on
a Sunday afternoon...--Stephen Boudreaux, White Sox
AppleKnockers 4 White Sox 5
Whew...this was a close one. The White Sox bats were held
relatively quiet by AppleKnocker lefthander, Lance Perrin, who threw
a dandy game (7 1/3, 5ER on only 9H, 9BB, and 10K). A few
timely hits by David Battaglia and a hooky-playing Andy Miller
helped salvage the win. Patrick Taliaferro also came out of
his hitting slumber to go 2-3 with a run before getting tossed in
the game by a trigger-happy blue. Mike Lopez also showed great
patience at the plate with 2BB, 2R, 1@2B, and 2RBI that was
the difference in the game. More importantly, our closer, Evan
Neiser came in to halt the AppleKnocker attack starting in the 5th
inning. Evan pitched 5 innings of 1-hit ball and recorded 8
strikeouts. He also helped himself at the plate with a 2-4
performance with a double, 2RBI, 1BB, and a stolen base. Levi Rush
starting the pitching duties and pitched well giving up only one
earned run. Seth White took the third inning giving up only
one run and retiring the side. Chris Huebner set up Neiser
nicely with his 1 inning of shutout ball against the heart of the
lineup. The Sox defense held as much as it needed with only 2
errors in the game (compared to 5 the week before).~Stephen
Boudreaux, White Sox
The Cardinals were better than
expected, but I am convinced that the White Sox are our own worst
opponent. We committed 6 errors in the first 5 innings leading to at
least 4 of their 6 runs. Thanks to the second half of our pitching
staff shutting the Cards hitters down.

White Sox 9 Tigers 3
First game of the year always sees a
few mishaps, but all seemed to go well for the White Sox in their
new endeavor in the 25+ Division after spending the past 11 years in
the 18+ Division. Thanks to a solid pitching staff, the White
Sox held the Tigers at bay striking out 15 led by Evan Neiser (3IP,10AB,0R,0ER,0H,1BB,0HBP,7K)
and Dustin Wilson (2IP,10AB,2R,1ER,3H,1BB,0HBP,6K) in
support of starter, Kyle Stiles (4IP,18AB,1R,1ER,3H,2BB,1HBP,2K).
The White Sox offense was not as productive facing a salty young
veteran pitcher in Zeb Undernehr whose father is a near legend in
the NWAMSBL. Zeb faced 35 batters, gave up 9 runs on 12 hits
and fanned only 3 White Sox, but the hits were scattered. The
Tigers played solid defense led by their wall-of-a-third baseman who
recorded 6 defensive outs (I guess the Sox were pulling the ball
down the line? White Sox offensive highlights were:
Andy Miller = 4AB,3R,2H,2RBI,2-2B,K.
Chris Huebner = 2AB,2H
Stephen Boudreaux = 4AB,3H,3RBI
David Battaglia = 2AB,2H,RBI
